8 Most Powerful Naruto Characters

Here are 8 of the most powerful characters in Naruto (not including the lady that ate the entire Chakra fruit from the God Tree by herself).

Table of Contents

8. Nagato (Pain)

Nagato

Nagato was a descendant of the Uzumaki clan, like Naruto. He was thought to be the child of prophecy by Jiraiya. Nagato dreamt of bringing peace to the shinobi world, but after witnessing the death of his friend Ayhiko, he changed. This started his journey to becoming Pain.

After seeing his friend die, the power of the Six Paths awakened within him. This granted him the ability to perform a special technique called the Six Paths of Pain, in which his mind controls six bodies as one entity. Each path possesses a different name and different techniques. We can see just how powerful this technique is during Pain’s fight with Jiraiya.

After an intense battle with three of Pain’s bodies, Jiraiya prepared to go home, as he believed he had defeated Pain. But Pain then reappeared and attacked him with the Six Paths of Pain, cutting off his left arm. Jiraiya saw all of Pain’s bodies as they attacked. While he managed to kill one of the bodies, the other five attacked and impaled him, Killing him.

During his training, Pain also developed the Rinnegan, an eye technique said to be the most powerful of all the eye techniques. No other being has had the Rinnegan since the Sage of the Six Paths. When combined with immense chakra and ninjutsu prowess, this made Pain truly powerful.

After the death of Yohiko, who started the Akatsuki group, Pain became its leader. Pain turned it into one of the most feared and powerful organizations in Naruto. Pain was the most powerful ninja in the group apart from Madara, who is actually in control of the group.

7. Madara

Madara

Madara Uchiha was a legendary ninja who led the Uchiha clan prior to and after the formation of Konohagakure. He is also the true shadow leader of the Akatsuki.

Before the existence of ninja villages, Madara and his younger brother, Izuna, were undoubtedly the most gifted members of the Uchiha clan. Even by his clan’s standards, Madara’s chakra was already incredibly strong. They grew up constantly competing and training, and in their efforts, each gained their own Mangekyo Sharingan.

With the power of the Mangekyo, the two brothers took over the clan and Madara became its new leader.

Under his leadership, the clan conquered all that stood before them. However, Madara began to suffer from using the Mangeko Sharingan, and he eventually went blind. In order to regain his sight, he took his brother Izuna’s eyes for himself, gaining the “eternal” Mangekyo Sharingan with which he led the Uchiha clan to a new age of prosperity.

Later, the villagers of Konoha chose Hashirama as the village’s first Hokage, which Madara did not like. Madara feared that Hashirama would oppress the Uchiha, and tried to rally support for challenging his leadership. Rather than help him, the Uchiha turned their backs on him, believing he only desired to start another war.

After he was denied the position of Hokage and abandoned by his clan, Madara left the village and went looking for the Nine-Tails. After acquiring it, he returned to challenge Hashirama in battle. They fought in the place that would someday be called the Valley of the End. This is where Madara was defeated. The Nine-Tails was taken from him and Madara died. He would be resurrected later—but that’s another story.

6. Kakashi Hatake

Kakashi Hatake

Kakashi Hatake is one of the higher-ranking ninjas in the Hidden Leaf village. He is also the teacher of team 7, which is the team of Naruto Uzumaki, Haruno Sakura, and Sasuke Uchiha. His mentor was none other than the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze. He even fought alongside Obito Uchiha in the past.

He has a unique ability that comes from the Sharingan in his left eye, though Kakashi is not from the Uchiha clan. The Sharingan allows him to copy and predict the movements of any genjutsu or ninjutsu technique. He received it from his dying friend Obito Uchiha.

Kakashi is also able to gain the Mangekyo Sharingan, which allows him to create black holes. But, he cannot use it frequently, as it drains his chakra to extremely low levels, which could lead to his death.

He has a summoning ability with a pack of Ninja Dogs, one of which speaks and all of which are excellent trackers.

In his youth, Kakashi was cold and efficient. He saw no use for team members. He looked down on those who were not on his level. But that changed when a mission went badly and Obito Uchiha had half of his body crushed by a huge boulder. It was obvious that Obito was not going to survive and that Kakashi and another team member, Rin, weren’t likely to survive either. Obito wanted to give his Sharingan eye to help them escape.

Due to Obito’s sacrifice, Kakashi learns the value of friendship and the importance of teamwork. This is the only time anyone in Naruto gained the abilities of a “bloodline trait” without actually being a member of that particular bloodline. But as this is an imperfect solution at best, he often gets tired after using the borrowed eye—So much so that he can be unconscious for days or weeks.

When he learns of this, he starts to cover it when not in battle to help avoid the drain on his power. Kakashi wears a ninja mask that covers his face up just below the eyes and wears his headband skewed on his head, covering his left eye. He is never seen without his masks on, and even his close friends don’t know what he looks like.

To Kakashi, Obito’s sacrifice was a life-changing experience. He became very dedicated to his future teams because it was a teammate’s sacrifice that allowed him to become who he is. After the ninja war, Kakashi becomes the Sixth Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village.

5. Obito (Tobi)

Obito

Obito ( known by his alter-ego, Tobi), is an incredibly powerful character responsible for much of the suffering in Naruto’s life. Tobi’s true identity is only known to a very select few, Kabuto and Zetsu. Most of the main characters that knew of his secret identity as Obito are dead. Tobi became a member of Akatsuki and replaced Sasori upon his death at the hands of Team 7.

Tobi possesses many unique Jutsu that only he knows. Some of his powers include:

  • an unnamed teleporting Jutsu
  • an unnamed phasing Jutsu
  • an unnamed Katon
  • Hiding like a Mole Technique

He is able to transport himself, parts of his body, and others to different dimensions. He also has the ability to create replacement body parts. He gained possession of Hashirama’s power and learned to use Izanagi, allowing him to turn fantasy into reality. He also gained the Rinnegan.

Aside from granting its user all 5 elements, it possesses 6 abilities based on the 6 paths of Buddhist reincarnation: gravity manipulation, body modification, telepathy, summoning animals, chakra absorption, and resurrection Hell.

Tobi is very free and fun unlike the other members of Akatsuki who are very serious. Some of the Akatsuki dislike his view on life and can get annoyed by Tobi. Tobi later changes his light-hearted and cheery ways as he claims himself to be very old and powerful. He pledges alliance with Team Hebi and their ultimate goal is to capture all 9-tailed beasts and merge them into the legendary 10-tailed beast, which has the power to render the world’s powers useless.

What about Tobi’s previous life as Obito? They couldn’t be more different.

Obito Uchiha was a teammate of Kakashi Hatake and Rin under the Fourth Hokage. Obito was always late for missions because of the random kind acts he would carry out, which really annoyed Kakashi. When Rin is kidnapped, Kakashi, the current team leader, insisted that they continue the mission instead of saving her. Believing that those who do not save their teammates are no better than their enemies, Obito refused and persuaded Kakashi to join him.

During their rescue mission, Kakashi lost his left eye and Obito awakened his Sharingan to save Kakashi and defeat the ninja. Once they found Rin, Obito again saved Kakashi by pushing him out of the way of a rock slide. However, Obito’s right side was crushed in the process. Unable to escape with his teammates, Obito had Rin implant his remaining Sharingan eye in Kakashi’s damaged eye.

He later returns, but now as a powerful and evil alter-ego called Tobi. Tobi claimed to be Madara Uchiha, a powerful ninja who fought the First Hokage, Hashirama. But he was not really Madara. Tobi is responsible for the Nine-Tails Attack on Konoha as well as the Uchiha clan massacre, ruining both Naruto and Sasuke’s lives.

4. Jiraya

Jiraya

Jiraiya is Naruto’s mentor. Jiraya trained under Hiruzen Sarutobi before joining his fellow ninjas Tsunade and Orochimaru. The three were seen as the world’s strongest shinobi and given the title of Konoha’s Legendary Sannin.

Be it Legendary Sannin, Pervy Sage, or the Toad Sage of Mount Myoboku, Jiraiya had an entire lifetime to earn fame wherever he went. His wisdom and knowledge of the shinobi world made him one of the best shinobi. Meanwhile, his knowledge and mastery of a multitude of unique and powerful Jutsu made him one the deadliest shinobi as well.

One of his interesting abilities is the Water Pistol. To perform this technique, he summons a massive toad. As the toad releases a jet of water from its mouth, Jiraya stands directly behind it and enhances the power using his own Elemental Release. This technique is capable of slicing up enemies into little pieces.

Jiraiya first used this technique with Gamariki while showing Naruto the power of coordination ninjutsu. Shortly after creating his contract seal, Jiraiya taught Naruto how a summons enhances a shinobi’s capabilities. As a result, Naruto combined wind chakra with the Water Pistol to create Wind Toad Water Pistol.

Another of Jiraya’s techniques is the Giant Flame Bomb. Giant Flame Bomb is a stronger version of the Fire Style: Flame Bomb technique as it requires the user to enter Sage Mode. After filling his mouth with oil, Jiraya expels it quickly while simultaneously igniting it. A massive fireball is expelled, engulfing everything in flames.

Jiraiya uses this technique to attack Pain full-force during his infiltration of Amegakure. After entering Sage Mode upon being located, Jiraiya used Giant Flame Bomb to completely destroy Pain’s summoned Giant Drill-Beaked Bird. He also used this technique to cut off Pain’s escape route by setting the entire room on fire.

Sage Mode utilizes nature chakra to grant Jiraya additional abilities. The combination of nature chakra and Jiraya’s own grants him additional techniques, improved ninjutsu capabilities, and enhanced strength and speed. Due to the dangerous nature of amassing nature chakra, few shinobi are capable of using Sage Mode to its full advantage.

Despite his inability to develop Perfect Sage Mode, Jiraiya is still one of the best users of this technique. He managed to complete his training while he was only a genin, used Sage Mode to defeat Hanzo, and utilized its multitude of advantageous techniques to fight against the Six Paths of Pain.

3. Might Guy (Guy-Sensei)

Might Guy

Might Guy, also known as Guy-Sensei and often called Bushy Brows Sensei by Naruto, is a character with a surprising plot twist. Although his specialty is Taijutsu, his technique cannot be underestimated, especially with his Gate techniques. It turns out that Might Guy has some surprises up his sleeve.

He is certainly the most powerful taijutsu user in the Shinobi World. Might Guy is a Konoha of the Hidden Leaf Village—a ninja who is famous for having the strongest Taijutsu technique in the Shinobi world. But, he can’t do any Ninjutsu.

Guy has many powerful Taijutsu techniques such as Asa Kujaku and Hirudora. He also has a very powerful and risky technique called the Eight Gates. This technique can annihilate any object in front of it when it makes contact.

Since childhood, Might Guy was only taken care of by his father Dai, or Duy. They both lived in a small and secluded area. Guy is always shown with his father, and his mother is never mentioned or shown in both of the animes until later. Some say that Guy’s mother died upon giving birth to Guy. Or it could be that she ran away.

Guy’s father always taught Guy to live an optimistic life, and with that, Guy become a person who never gives up and continues to be enthusiastic and positive. Even though he failed many times, Guy never gave up. It was because he had the Will of Fire since childhood.

Maybe Kakashi Hatake seems ignorant and never considers Guy to be his rival, but Kakashi is always enthusiastic to join a duel or compete with Guy to show who is the best. The rivalry between Guy and Kakashi has been going on since childhood. Guy really wants to surpass Kakashi because Kakashi is a popular ninja who had a famous father too.

2. Sasuke Uchiha

Sasuke Uchiha

Sasuke Uchiha is a former member of team seven and a rogue ninja of the Leaf Village. He’s a complicated character in Naruto. His only goal in life is to acquire the power needed to take revenge for his family’s death. He is Naruto’s rival and his closest friend. He is also Itachi Uchiha’s younger brother. After defeating Itachi, he loses Orochimaru’s curse mark and is told the truth of the Uchiha’s destruction and of Itachi’s secret life by Tobi.

Sasuke was a young and talented boy that always tried to surpass his older brother Itachi. One day, Itachi wiped out their clan, sparing only him in order to let him become stronger. Itachi wants him to hate and wants him to kill him someday when he is strong enough to gain the Sharingan. The Sharingan eye is only accessible to an Uchiha who kills something close to him. Sasuke considers himself to be the wrath that will bring down his brother. He joins Orochimaru in the search to gain power and kill Itachi.

Sasuke was just a child and totally shielded from the constant tension present in the Village’s power structure. He led a simple life. He loved his parents, strived to do well in everything related to being a Ninja, and greatly admired his older brother Itachi.

When Sasuke’s father spoke to him, it was usually to compare him to his brother. This built up an eagerness for Sasuke to prove himself and get out of Itachi’s long shadow. But when Itachi killed everyone in the Uchiha clan, he set Sasuke on a path to walk in his shadow forever.

1. Naruto

Naruto

Born in Konohagakure, a ninja village hidden in the leaves, Naruto Uzumaki was always destined for greatness. When he was born, a powerful nine-tailed demon fox attacked his village. With a wave of its tail, the demon fox could raise tsunamis and destroy complete mountains. In a valiant attempt to save the village from destruction, the Fourth Hokage, the leader of the Hidden Leaf Village, sealed the demon fox within Naruto’s newborn body. This final act cost him his life.

Despite the Fourth Hokage’s dying wish that Naruto be viewed as a hero for serving as the container for the demon, the adult villagers of Konoha had a hatred for Naruto, and many believed that Naruto and the demon were one and the same (though this was not the case).

Naruto was treated as an outcast and frowned upon by the villagers for reasons he could not understand. The children his age followed their parents’ example and made his childhood very lonely. Though this all changed when he became part of Team Seven. He trained alongside Sasuke and Sakura, and Kakashi was his teacher.

Naruto eventually came to accept that he would live and die alone, and his response was to perform harmless pranks on the villagers. Naruto soon came to display a somewhat unexpected determination to succeed and be accepted by others. Upon being assigned to Team Seven as a Genin-ranked ninja, his true potential soon became clear.

Vowing to become Hokage one day and never give up, Naruto saves the village from invading forces and earns his acceptance. Eventually, Naruto learns to harness the power of the Demon Fox sealed inside him and he performs acts of strength far beyond what any other human is capable of. In the end, he becomes the next Hokage.

Naruto is an admirable character whose sheer determination to succeed despite the odds, earns him respect and devotion from his fellow villagers. He is truly the Hero of his own story.
