One Piece, a manga and anime phenomenon so epic that it’s been weaving tales of pirates, treasures, and rubber-powered protagonists since the days of dial-up internet (1997, to be exact), shows no signs of putting its sails away. Fans were recently found rejoicing, having survived the intense binge-watching that led them to the monumental 1000th episode.
Now, with a series so long, it’s bound to have some extra fluff – you know, those filler episodes that make you wonder if they’re even part of the same story. But what if you just want to get to the meat of the main story?
We’ve compiled a trusty treasure map of sorts, guiding you through the essential watch order and pointing out the episodes you can skip. So, gather ’round, One Piece aficionados, and let’s leave those unnecessary side quests behind!
One Piece filler arcs detailed
One Piece boasts not only a treasure trove of episodes but also a hefty collection of 15 filler arcs. These episodic barnacles cling to the hull of an otherwise swashbuckling adventure.
Now, we get it – some of you may not have the fortitude (or time) to brave the filler-infested waters, preferring to stick to the main plot. So we’ve compiled a list of those tangential arcs, giving you the freedom to skip ’em if you deem them unworthy of your precious hours.
But before you go thinking One Piece is nothing but filler, think again! A mere 10 percent of the show is fluff, meaning that newcomers will still need to navigate through over 900 episodes to catch up to the weekly release. So use your binge-watching time wisely, adventurers!
The filler arcs in order:
- Episodes 54-61: Warship Island arc

Thinking about skipping these arcs but still curious as to what they’re all about? Read on for a taste of these not-so-critical adventures!
Episodes 54-61: Warship Island arc
The series’ very first filler arc, this nautical nugget is sandwiched between the East Blue Saga and the Straw Hat Pirates’ daring dive into the Grand Line. It features a young lass named Apis, who, in a stroke of luck, escapes from the clutches of a fearsome military warship only to find herself adrift at sea.
Our beloved Straw Hat Pirates swoop in with perfect timing and haul the damsel in distress aboard their trusty vessel. Little did they know, they were about to embark on a whirlwind adventure that has absolutely no bearing on the main plot.
Episodes 131-135: Post-Alabasta arc
The Post-Alabasta Arc, cleverly named for its position right after the Alabasta Arc, is a refreshing change of pace from your typical filler arc.
Rather than forcing you to endure a single, unrelated plot, it dishes up a delightful, bite-sized assortment of five standalone episodes. Each one shines the spotlight on a different Straw Hat Pirate, giving fans a little extra time with their favorite swashbucklers.
Episodes 136-138: Goat Island arc
In this riveting escapade, our Straw Hat heroes drop anchor on a seemingly typical island, hoping to hide from the Marine ships. But lo and behold, they stumble upon a charming old man and his goat entourage.
Faster than you can say “baaa-rmy,” the Straw Hats and their newfound elderly friend team up to take on the pesky Marines, turning the island into a battleground where even the goats join the fight.
Episodes 139-143: Ruluka Island Arc
This arc finds our trusty band of misfits – you guessed it – being pursued by the relentless Marines. A classic start, really.
They stumble upon the whimsical Ruluka Island, where the citizens are groaning under the weight of a power-hungry dictator’s excessive taxes. His dream? To fund the construction of a Rainbow Tower, because who wouldn’t want a skyscraper dedicated to ROYGBIV?
Episodes 196-206: G-8 arc
Our intrepid Straw Hat Pirates find themselves in the mythical Sky Island, but when they return to sea level, they face a rude awakening. Their ship lands smack dab in the middle of a heavily fortified Marine base. (Talk about a serious case of bad luck!)
With their ship held hostage, the Straw Hats must use their wits and cunning to reclaim their vessel and make a daring escape.
Episodes 220-224: Ocean’s Dream arc
The Ocean’s Dream Arc takes a page (or a pixel) directly from the One Piece PlayStation game. Picture this: all of our beloved Straw Hat Pirates, save for Nico Robin, find themselves in a memory wipeout of epic proportions. With no recollection of their pirate-y past, they’re suddenly strangers on a ship, eyeing each other with suspicion.
Sounds fun, right? But beware, first-time One Piece watchers. This arc is so different from the rest of the series, you’re better off skipping it if you’re looking for a taste of what the show’s really like.
Episodes 225-226: Foxy’s Return arc
Next up, we have the Foxy’s Return arc, a sequel that nobody asked for. It begins shortly after the Long Ring Long Island arc, as our heroes stumble upon Foxy (a character whose popularity ranks somewhere below the bottom of the ocean) and two of his crew, Porche and Hamburg, drifting helplessly in a dinghy. With Luffy’s inexplicable sense of hospitality, he invites them aboard the Going Merry.
Unfortunately, this arc does little more than rekindle the Straw Hat Pirates’ love-hate (mostly hate) relationship with Foxy. If only this arc had been delayed, it might have had more impact.
Episodes 326-335: Ice Hunter arc
Our Straw Hat Pirates come across a crew in distress on a battered ship. Ever the do-gooders, they decide to lend a helping hand. But plot twist – these seemingly helpless victims are actually part of the Accino Family, a notorious clan of bounty hunters!
Now our heroes have a brand-new enemy that isn’t the Marines, because who doesn’t love a little variety in their antagonists?
Episodes 382-384: Spa Island arc
Here, our pirate friends take a well-deserved break from their swashbuckling lifestyle on a man-made paradise of relaxation and fun.
Splitting up to sample the island’s bountiful recreational activities, they cross paths with Lina, a young girl, and her mysterious sister Sayo, who clutches a curious notebook tighter than Blackbeard to his treasure. Intriguing, isn’t it?
Episodes 426-429: Little East Blue arc
A four-episode prequel to One Piece Film: Strong World, our Straw Hat Pirates find themselves on an uncanny doppelgänger of East Blue. But their leisurely island romp is cut short when the nefarious Amigo Pirates crash the party and capture our heroes.
What follows is a thrilling duel between Luffy and the Amigo Pirates’ top dog, Largo. Get your popcorn ready!
Episodes 575-578: Z’s Ambition arc
The first filler arc to grace our screens after the much-anticipated time skip, Z’s Ambition sets up One Piece Film: Z.
The Straw Hat Pirates plunge into the mysterious New World. But lo and behold, they find themselves surrounded by a menacing fleet of Marine ships! Will they escape this naval nightmare unscathed?
Episodes 626-628: Caesar’s Retrieval arc
In this arc, Caesar Clown (a guy whose name couldn’t be more fitting) is whisked away by a mysterious kidnapper. Suddenly, it’s a free-for-all as multiple parties throw their hats into the ring, all vying to snatch up Caesar.
Will the Straw Hats reclaim their clownish captive, or will this turn into a circus of confusion?
Episodes 747-750: Silver Mine arc
The Silver Mine Arc leads the way to the glittering One Piece Film: Gold. In this dazzling tale, the Silver Mine Alliance captures Luffy and Bartolomeo, imprisoning them in a massive fortress located in their bling-encrusted pirate silver mine.
Watch as this dynamic duo battles their way through the mine, taking on pirates and maybe picking up some silver souvenirs along the way!
Episodes 780-782: Marine Rookie arc
Luffy, in an act of culinary catastrophe, gobbles up every last morsel of the Sanji Retrieval Team’s food supply.
On the brink of starvation, the desperate crew devises a cunning plan. They sneak into a Marine base, pummel a few soldiers, swipe their uniforms, and – in true pirate fashion – disguise themselves to plunder the food storage. It’s fun, but there’s not much to it, is there?
Episodes 895-896: Cidre Guild arc
The Cidre Guild Arc leads right into One Piece: Stampede. In this skippable adventure, Luffy crosses paths with the Cidre Guild, a pesky bunch of bounty hunters who’ve been doggedly pursuing our favorite Straw Hat Pirates. Will Luffy give them the slip or face off in a high-seas showdown?
