Tokyo Revengers: Synopsis

The show begins when Takemichi, a 26-year-old bum who wasted most of his youth, gets a second chance to set things right. One day, as he’s watching the news in his rundown apartment, the anchor speaks of a War between two rival gangs.

Amidst all the chaos, a lone woman got caught up in a massive collision and died. That woman was Takemichi’s ex-girlfriend, Hinata. When given the chance to travel back in time 12 years prior—back to the good old days—he vows to prevent his love from dying this time around. But for this to occur, he’ll have to take control of his life and not repeat the same errors he committed the first time around.

In his attempt to change the future, Takemichi confronts many new challenges that test him to the limit while meeting new people whom he grows to care about. His next goal is to reach the high ranks of the Tokyo Manji Gang, one of the gangs involved in the accident, so that he may prevent the collision from taking place.

Takemichi Hangaki

When the show begins, Takemichi is confirmed to be a 26-year-old adult. However, things quickly change and he finds himself going back in time 12 years, making him a 14-year-old. Sad enough for Takemichi, despite the whole time-shifting thing, he still remains 5’5 (165 cm) throughout the series. His birthday is on the 25th of June.

Due to some unexplained phenomenon, he can teleport back to middle school when was a 14-year-old teenager. Now technically, he is still an adult, as he possesses the mind of one. And it’s not age that determines maturity—it’s experience.

However, despite thinking like an adult, Takemichi still remains 14 years old physically. Whenever he loops back in time, all those around him notice a sudden change in his attitude.

Let’s take a look, in detail, at Takemichi’s life before he returned to the past. In the original timeline, he was living a really boring and monotonous life without much to look forward to. As a convenience store worker, he was always struggling to get to work on time and was stressed 24/7 in his attempts to make ends meet.

It seems as though Takemichi had lost all hope in life and his mental health was hanging by a thread. However, things get even worse when he finds out that his middle school ex-girlfriend, the only person who ever loved him, died as collateral damage in a gang war.

Later that day, Takemichi goes to the station, contemplating about his life and what lead him to this point, when he is suddenly pushed onto the railroad. Despite knocking at death’s door, when he opens his eyes, he finds himself 12 years in the past. Now with a chance to save Hinata, Takemichi promises to take control of his life and change the events that lead to the accident. Day by day, Takemichi’s confidence increases and his character strengthens. He’s on a mission not only to save Hinata but to find purpose in his life.

Hinata Tachibana

The second most important character, and also the female lead of Tokyo Revengers, is Hinata Tachibana. Similar to Takemichi, Hinata is 26 years old in the original timeline. Her birthday is May 21st and she’s around 5’ tall (153 cm), making her one of the shortest characters in the series.

Again similar to Takemichi, she is also 14 years of age post-time-jump. She remains the same height throughout the series. There isn’t much information available regarding the adult Hinata as Takemichi lost touch with her right after school ended.

Just like Takemichi, Hinata too has the trait of being overly protective of those she cares for, such as Naoto, and of course Takemichi. However, she differs from Takemichi in that she’s quick to take action. But when death is a possibility, impulsiveness can be very dangerous. This makes Hinata a liability for herself and her loved ones. But overall, Hinata is friendly and caring towards everyone she meets.

Naoto Tachibana

Naoto Tachibana, brother to Hinata Tachibana and a year younger than her, is 25 years old (birthday: April 12th). He has a very important role in the series because, without him, Takemichi can’t travel back and forth in time. In order for Takemichi to go back to the present or travel from the present to his middle school days, he has to shake hands with Naoto.

He is quite a bit taller than Takemichi and stands at 5 feet 9 inches tall (175 cm). However, in the past, Naoto was 13 years of age and stood just 4’10” tall (148 cm), making him considerably shorter than the other teens (he had yet to hit his teenage growth spurt).

Naoto went through a crazy personality shift from childhood to adulthood. Originally a frail, slightly nerdy teenager, he grew up to become a competent and badass officer.

As a kid, he often was the victim of bullying. Thinking that he could avoid confrontation and escape with fewer injuries, Naoto would comply with the bullies’ demands and do what they said.

However, Takemichi always stuck up for little Naoto. Thanks to this, Naoto grows up to be brave and dominant. He turns out to be a sharp, hard-to-please crime detective—a role that aids Takemichi in saving Hinata and many of his friends from Toman. Even though Naoto can’t understand Takemichi’s abilities and their source, he’s willing to help as long as Hinata survives.

Manjirō Sano (Mikey)

Sano Manjiro, aka Mikey, is the leader of the Tokyo Manji Gang and a fighter like no other. He was born on August 20th and he’s a year older than Takemichi, making him 27 years old in the present. He doesn’t grow much from his teen to adult years, as he stands at 5 foot 3.8 inches (162 cm) in both timelines.

Some things that do end up changing significantly are his hair and tattoos. This also highlights the change in timeline and Mikey’s character as a whole. In the past, Mikey is shown to be the leader of the Tokyo Manji Gang. However, when the gang got corrupted and transformed into the Kanto Manji gang, Mikey left.

In the old days, Mikey is a laid-back character who cares a lot for his friends and loves spending time with them. But don’t let this short-statured boy fool you. Mikey’s charisma and awesome kicks are enough to make anyone who opposes him feel the hurt.

His caring attitude towards each gang member also makes him a great leader. However, as the story progressed and some of his close friends were betrayed and killed, Mikey went through some heavy internal conflict and became a dangerous gangster.

How Tall Is Mikey from Tokyo Revengers?

Mikey is 5’3″/162cm

Tetta Kisaki

Standing at 5’4.6” (164 cm) tall, we have Tetta Kisaki. He’s another member of the Tokyo Manji gang—and perhaps the youngest one in the group. In the past, he is a 13-year-old boy and in the present, he’s 25 years old. His birthday is January 20th. At 25, he takes over and becomes the leader of the Tokyo Manji Gang.

Kisaki is the supposed antagonist of the series, as he’s the one who led the Tokyo Manji gang as they became corrupt and more violent.

While Kisaki’s physical abilities don’t compare to the rest of the gang members, his intelligence allows him to accomplish his goals. It is through manipulation and other underhanded dirty tactics that he bests his foes.

Kisaki has but one goal: to build the biggest criminal group in Japan. And to see this goal to fruition, he’ll commit the vilest of crimes. This obsession with crime is the result of an isolated childhood. In middle school, when he first encounters Hinata’s love for Takemichi, he thinks that it’s because she is attracted to delinquents. In this obsession, Kisaki makes it his goal to become the best criminal ever so that he can win over Hinata. Needless to say, this pushes him to insanity. He’s able to kill, manipulate, and do whatever is necessary.

Ken Ryūgūji (Draken)

Ken Ryuguji, more prominently known as Draken, is the vice president of the Tokyo Manji Gang. As Mikey’s right-hand, he is someone who actually looks like a gang member. He stands 6 feet tall (185 cm)  and his birthday is on the 10th of May.

Draken, like Mikey, is also 27 years old in the present timeline and 15 years old in high school.

Draken plays an important role in the Tokyo Manji Gang as the vice president. He stops Mikey from giving in to his emotions and prevents him from making bad decisions. Despite his looks and cold attitude, Draken is more sensible than Mikey and cares equally for his friends.

How Tall is Draken in Tokyo Revengers?

Draken is 6’1″/185cm

Masataka Kiyomizu (Kiyomasa)

Masataka Kiyomizu is another antagonist character in Tokyo Revengers. Otherwise known as Kiyomasa, his birthday is on the 18th of January. He is 14 years of age in the past timeline. Despite being so young, he’s actually quite tall, standing at 5 foot 11 (182 cm).

Kiyomasa likes to beat up anyone who challenges him, and his frightful personality matches his looks—he’s very muscular, and his face is covered in scars. He is a leader at Shibuya Third Middle School and dislikes Takemichi. As expected, this disliking often results in an unfair beating for our main character.

Overall, he cares little for those he considers lesser than him. However, this arrogance is often used against him as it makes him susceptible to manipulation.

Keisuke Baji

Keisuke Baji was a prominent face in the first season of Tokyo Revengers. He hails as one of Tokyo Manji Gang’s vice-leaders. He probably won’t make an appearance in the present timeline, since you know…he kills himself.

In the past timeline, he is 14 years of age, which would make him 26 years old in the present if he was still alive. His birthday is the 3rd of November, and Baji is quite tall for his age. He is approximately 5’9” tall (175 cm).

Baji is one of the strongest members of the gang. All it took was a single punch to knock out the Mandala Gang’s leader.

Baji is one of the founding Tokyo Manji Gang members, and his loyalty is unquestionable. In fact, he is so intent on keeping his friends safe that he took the blame for one of his friend’s questionable actions, and even became the “villain.” As the first division captain, Baji has more authority over the gang than the other captains.

Chifuyu Matsuno

One can’t talk about Baji without mentioning his most loyal team member, Chifuyu. He is the same age as Takemichi and was introduced in the past timelines as a 14-year-old. This would make his 26 years old in the present.

His birthday is December 19th, and he’s slightly taller than Takemichi, standing at 5’6” (168 cm). As the series progresses, Takemichi and Chifuyu grow closer and closer. This bond with Chifuyu helps Takemichi get through extremely distressful situations.

Despite coming off as cold and uncaring most of the time, Chifuya, similar to Draken, is a logical and level-headed member of the gang. However, despite his smaller size, he possesses skills that allow him to take on opponents far bigger than himself. Even though he may jump into danger head-on, he is quite capable of distinguishing right from wrong, and he isn’t afraid to stand up against evil.

Haruki Hayashida (Pah-chin)

Another founding member of the Tokyo Manji Gang is Pah-chin (his real name is Haruki Hayashida). At 14 years old, he has an average height of 5 feet and 4.6 inches (164 cm). Despite his average height, Pah-chin is quite muscular.

Thanks to his big build and broad shoulders, he comes across as super intimidating. In the present time, Pah-chin is 26 years old and more powerful than ever (birthday: February 24th). Unlike the other members of the gang, Pah-chin doesn’t think things through, and the way he solves problems is simply by smashing through them.

His loyalty to the Tokyo Manji Gang is unquestionable—so much so that he turns himself in for stabbing Osanai of the Moebius gang, who had assaulted his friends. He sacrifices himself just so his friends can escape.

Atsushi Sendō (Akkun)

Atushi Sendo, aka Akkun, is 13 years old in the past and is born on December 2nd. From his teenage years to adulthood (25 years), Akkun grows from 5’6” (168 cm) to 5’8.5” (174 cm).

In the past, he acts as the leader of Takemichi and his friends’ delinquent group. None of the boys mind his leadership since he’s very kind and caring.

Unfortunately, in the present, he works for Toman under Kisaki’s leadership, but he doesn’t have much control. Living in a depressed state, he asks Takemichi to save him and stop Kisaki from coming into power. With these words, he kills himself. This further strengthens Takemichi’s resolve to go back and try to stop Kisaki from coming to power.

Shūji Hanma

Shuji Hanma may not be the strongest fighter in Tokyo Revengers, but he stands at a whopping 6 foot 4 inches (194 cm). Though he doesn’t carry a lot of muscle and has a lanky build.

Due to his miraculous endurance, he’s been given the nickname, “Zombie.” He is one of the few older characters in the series. He’s 28 years old in the present timeline (birthday: October 27th), and he’s 16 in the past.

There’s not much to Hanma’s character apart from the fact that he’s an adrenaline junkie. To be more precise, he loves the thrill of danger. He is anything but loyal since he’s been in multiple gangs, and he cares little for the gang members.

As long as he’s entertained through some form of violence or the lingering sense of danger, he’s willing to work with any gang.

Takashi Mitsuya

Takashi Mitsuya is yet another one of Toman’s founding members. In the present timeline, he’s 27 years old (birthday: June 12th) making him a year older than Takemichi.

He stands at approximately 5 foot 7 (170 cm) and is one of the strongest fighters Toman has. His looks, however, don’t quite match his notorious reputation. This is mainly because he always wears a warm smile and puts out a wholesome vibe. But if pushed too far, he becomes a force to be reckoned with.

He’s the captain of Toman’s second division. Unlike the first division, he often tries to avoid fights. But if taken for granted, he is quick to throw pacifism aside.

Ryōhei Hayashi (Peh-yan)

Next up we have Ryohei Hayashi, commonly known as Peh-yan. He’s not the tallest character in the series, but, he’s still above average, standing at 5 feet 9 inches (176 cm). His intimidating demeanor makes him seem much taller.

He’s 15 years old in the past, and his birthday is October 15th. This makes him 27 years old in the present.

He’s the captain of the gang’s third division, but he still lacks the skill to make tough decisions.

He may be lacking in cognitive abilities, but he easily makes up for it with his fighting skills. His physical advantage and short temper make him a powerful and unpredictable character.

Kazushi Yamagishi

Kazushi Yamagishi is another one of Takemichi’s school friends. He is 13 years old in the past and 25 years old in the present timeline (birthday: February 9th). He doesn’t grow past 5 foot 2 (158 cm) throughout the series.

From the scars on his face, it’s apparent that he’s been through some tough situations.

Despite his bad school results, his memory is quite good. So when he is 25 years old, Kazushi knows the ins and outs of almost every gang in Japan. As you might imagine, this is very helpful to Takemichi.

Takuya Yamamoto

Similar to Kazushi, Takuya is also a middle school friend of Takemichi. Both are of the same age, that being 26 in the present and 14 in the past (birthday: July 15th).

His height is pretty average. He stands 5’5” tall (166 cm). He is distinguished by his long hair. Unlike the rest of the characters in Tokyo Revengers, Takuya isn’t really a fighter.

He’s not a gang member but still supports his friends. He even goes as far as to throw himself in harm’s way to protect them.

Makoto Suzuki

For a 13-year-old, Makoto is considerably tall at 5’8” (172 cm). But he still isn’t a good fighter, nor does he desire to be one.

He’s 25 years old in the present (birthday: December 28th) and he’s 13 in the past. From his teenage years to adulthood, Makoto’s personality doesn’t change much.

Of all of Takemichi’s middle school friends, he has the most delinquent characteristics. However, he’s too much of a softie to do any real harm. Even during fights, he cares more about the safety of his friends than coming out on top.

Nahoya Kawata (Smiley)

Up Next up we have Smiley, whose real name is Nahoya Kawata. He stands 5’7” tall (170 cm), and his puffy hair surely adds a few inches.

In the past, Smiley is 16 years old, and in the present, he’s 28 years old. This makes him one of the oldest Tokyo Revengers characters (birthday: 25th May). He is referred to as Smiley due to his signature grin. And you’ll be hard-pressed to find a scene where he’s not wearing one.

However, don’t let this smile fool you. Smiley can be extremely aggressive and terrifying. Before becoming the 4rth division captain for Toman, he ran the Twin Devil Gang with his brother, Angry.

However, the Twin Devil Gang was dissolved to join forces with Toman. Seeing his skills, Mikey recruited him as a captain, and since then, Smiley has embodied everything that Toman stands for.

Souya Kawata (Angry)

Since we mentioned Smiley, it’s only natural that we mention his twin brother Angry, otherwise known as Souya Kawata.

He shares the same birthday as his twin brother (May 25th) as well as his height (5’7”, or 170 cm).

The only ways these two differ are their personalities and hair color. As the name suggests, Angry spends most of his time glaring in a fearsome way, and anyone who makes eye contact with him can see the fire burning in his soul. But despite his name and attitude, Angry avoids fighting and gets extremely emotional if his brother or friends get hurt.

Yasuhiro Mutō (Mucho)

Yasuhiro Muto, aka Mucho, is the oldest character in Tokyo Revengers. He is also one of the founding members of Toman, being 18 years of age in the past and 30 in the present (birthday: April 28th).

He is a lot taller than the other characters in the series, standing at 6’5” (195 cm). He also has a muscular physique. Overall, Mucho is a calm and reasonable person who likes to avoid fights and will only use his strength when necessary.

A single punch from Mucho can end any fight. He’s a trained Judo athlete, making him even more lethal. In the past, Mucho only uses this strength to punish those who go against Mikey. Even in the present timeline, where he’s helping another gang, he refuses to use his strength for violence.

Nobutaka Osanai

Nobutaka Osanai has the most drastic physical change across all the Tokyo Revengers characters. Though his height only changes from 6’ to 6’1” (182 cm to 185 cm) from past to present, Osanai becomes much fatter at 29 years of age when compared to his 17-year-old self (birthday: 29th April).

As a teen, Osanai loved violence and ran a gang. Despite thinking of himself as a hot shot due to his boxing skills, Osanai isn’t as strong as he thinks, nor does he have the power to lead others. He didn’t get much screen time in the anime, but he still heavily impacted the plot.

Much like Takemichi, at 29 years old, Osanai lives a less-than-envious adult life and works as a humble construction worker.

Emma Sano                                                                          Emma Sano, sister to Mikey, is 14 years old in the past, making her 26 in the present timeline (birthday: November 25th). She is yet to be seen in the present timeline.

Emma stands at about 4’11” (150 cm) and is quite a bit shorter than most of the other characters. However, she’s quite physically developed. Using her physical maturity to her benefit, she often tries to woo Draken, though he couldn’t care less.

Despite her best attempts to appear mature, Emma is quite naïve at heart. Luckily for her, Mikey is always there to protect his little sister.

Thanks to this lovely brother-sister bond, she is as loyal to Mikey as any other member of the gang.

Hakkai Shiba

Next up we have Hakkai Shiba, who is 6 feet tall (183 cm) at just 14 years old (birthday: 4th September).

He ends up growing even taller and is 6’4” (192 cm) by the time he’s an adult. Hakkai is the younger brother of Taiju, the former leader of the 10-generation-long Black Dragon gang.

Despite being an absolute tank physically, Hakkai is easily one of the most cultured and well-mannered characters on the show. He is appointed as the vice-captain for the second division. He doesn’t like using force. All he wants is to keep his friends and family safe.

Kazutora Hanemiya

Lastly, we have Kazutora Hanemiya, who has an average height of about 5’8.5” (174 cm). There isn’t much to make him stand out except his yellow hair highlights and tattooed body.

In the past, he is 15 years old, but we have yet to see him in the present. Unlike most of the characters who chose to become delinquents just because they wanted to or because they had some weird goals, Kazutora is different.

He comes from a broken and mentally unstable family, so he’s afraid of being alone. That’s why he clings to anything that he can call a family. One such family unit is the Tokyo Manji gang. However, that too goes horribly wrong for him, as Kazutora tries to get Mikey’s approval by committing a terrible crime.
